Happy Spring! Full Moon this Monday! Wanakena celebrated the last few days of winter PROPER this past weekend as temperatures dropped and snow fell. Forecast for this weekend is COLD! And SNOW! FRIDAY NIGHT STORM! Had a few Cranberry Lake 50 hikers pass through Monday morning! They were in high spirits! They had come all the way around the backside of the lake without nearly a speck of dirt on the one gentleman. Of course, that was BEFORE the SNOW and SINGLE DIGITS we experience now. Obviously, this winter was what Brapologists would call "A STINKER" to say the least. NOT A BAD YEAR FOR SNOW CROUET - not one bit! Here's a message from Cranberry Lake Boat Club Commodore Halsey Bagg: "Ice-Out 2024 is officially over. Ice-Out was called by Judge Chuck Yartz at 7:14 PM on 3/12." That's the earliest recorded ice-out! The MAJESTIC Oswegatchie River here in Wanakena is ALL FROZEN-UP! BRRRR! There are Canadian Geese seeing out there on the ice. (look close at photo above) Miserable little buggers. Around town the deer leave their footprints in the snow overnight. BOB the Wanakena Wildcat lurks... he's looking healthy! RED WING BLACKBIRD CONFIRMATION! Anyone else seeing a chunky little chubby duck on The Oswegatchie? Ruddy Duck? Grackle and Junco Jump-off! Purple Finch still around! Goldfinch, Nuthatch, Blue Jays, Chickadee. Kim & Thom have NO LOST DOGS to report! They do (did) have a really cool, petite LCD TV with wall mount and sound bar. Any takers? Ranger School is on SPRING BREAK but return this weekend! Weekly Wanakena Take-Out Dinners at Packbacket Adventures - look it up!
