It's that time of the year! A Message from the Wanakena Historical Associaion's Allen Ditch:

Dear North Country Photographers!

Once again it's time to review your digital photo albums, and get out your cameras to capture images of winter for the 4th Annual Winter Photo Contest. The Wanakena Historical Association invites you to make the 4th annual winter photo contest a success again this year. This year, there are two categories that will have photos judged: "Fun In Winter" and " Beauty of Winter", which can mean different images and/or activities to different photographers.

In previous years the photo contest has been one of the best attended events during the Clifton-Fine White Out Weekend (February 15-17). Each photographer can enter up to three photos. Last year the first prize winners each received $80! Minimum First prize for both the Youth and Adult entries is $50. Although generous donors help to ensure minimum prize money, the final prize money increases with the number of entry fees received.

Attached is the contest flyer, entry form and rules. All submissions must be received no later than February 4th. Help make this event another Wanakena WOW success. PLEASE FORWARD to anyone you think might be interested in entering. Can't wait to see the creative and beautiful images entered this year.

Red Line is a community sourced map-making experiment aimed at exploring the Adirdondack community of Clifton-Fine - where Otto's Abode is located. The term Red Line comes from the first "element" that was placed (painted) on the surface of the object - a large canvas. Existing for months a seemingly minimal/abstract painting - a blank canvas with a red squiggle- several local visitors to Otto's Abode were able to "crack the code" and recognize the distinct shape and personalty of the line and successfully identify it as a character within the Clifton-Fine community. Decisions as to what elements are added next are fueled by conversations held; suggestions may be made, lessons learned. Red Line seems to be blurring and bending the boundaries of what most maps describe Clifton-Fine as. Over a year in the making, additional elements have slowly found their way onto the canvas. An objective of Red Line is to allow the surface-image to remain ambiguous; is it a modernist painting or a map? Red Line will remain on view at Otto's Abode for as long as it takes.

Fresh off the presses! The newest issue of SlagMag has been mailed to us by previous artist-in-residence Jon Henry. During his time (March 2017) in Wanakena Jon established Otto’s Abode as a Slag Mag distribution center, equipping us with a weather-proof rack filled with previous copies of the quarterly. By doing so Jon set-up a satellite space for past and future in-print issues to be available. The newest issue is entitled FERMENT.
