RT 56 SINKHOLE?!?! HALF INCH OF RAIN AND JUST SHY OF FIFTY DEGREES FORECAST FOR WANAKENA THIS PAST WEDNESDAY. BIGGEST WARM-UP OF THE WINTER SO FAR. DESPITE THE THAW AND RAIN, WE'RE KEEPING TODAY'S ICE JAM DANGER AT "LOW"! OUR LOGIC IS THAT THE ICE UP THE RAPIDS IS THICK AND STURDY AND ALL THE ACCUMULATED SNOW ONTOP OF THAT ICE IS QUITE HEAVY. WITH ALL THAT FROZEN MASS ATOP THE RUNNING OSWEGATCHIE, A BRIEF THAW AND A HALF INCH OF RAIN SHOULD NOT BE ENOUGH TO CAUSE A MAJOR DISTURBANCE! THERE VERY WELL COULD BE ISOLATED SMALLER ICE-OUTS. BUT WE DONT EXPECT A MAJOR ICE-JAM EVENT AT THIS TIME! AND IF WE'RE WRONG... GIDDY UP! Ranger School '25 lost to the Alumni down in 'cuse last weekend at the annual hockey sesh. "IT WAS CLOSE!" Some say we had the LAST coldest morning of winter this past week. IT IS STILL WINTER! Down in the teens below zero. SNAPPY! We've since bounced-back-up and have received the most RAIN and WARM we've had all year (past two months). Trails are ICE but HOLDING UP! SNOW ON THE WAY! Should be a great winter weekend. Pine siskin, MUCHO goldfinch, sparrow, downy, nuthatch juncos, at the feeder. Grossbeak and crows soar the skies. LOTS OF SINGING GOING ON! Cold sunny mornings, warm gray days. Chubby grey squirrels bounce by. Thaw's-a-coming... The cat, who has resorted to burying her stuff in the snow, has found a patch of earth! For now... DOWNTOWN... Snow Croquet LIVES!
