Annual Fire Tower Lighting Event is taking place this SUNDAY SEPT 1ST, 2024, from 9:00 -9:30 p.m. Most of the towers in the Adirondack Park will be lit up for this event, including Cathedral Rock (formerly Tooley Pond tower). This is the 11th annual lighting. This year, the names of the 16 observers who once manned the Cathedral Rock tower will be read off to honor their service to NYS and the Adirondack Park. Tim O’Mara and several Ranger School students will hike up to the tower and light it brightly from 9-9:30. In the event of rain Saturday night, the event will take place Sunday night, same time. The tower will be visible from places on Route 3, Ranger School Rd, and certain parts of Cranberry lake. We encourage folks to view the tower from a distance, not to hike up to it in the dark. Please join us in celebrating NY’s fire towers and their role in protecting our forests and enhancing recreation experiences. Ranger School Class of 2025 is IN SESSION!
