Happy graduation class of 2024! WOW IT WAS HOT AND HUMUD! But we didn't get above 90! The heat broke and rain came! Oswegatchie River is moving pretty good. Gotta' love the sound of those rapids. The WARM swimming water is now COLD, and you'll be fighting a current! It'll get down in the 40s Thursday night! Weekena looks like low 70s and maybe some rain. White Pine Needles fall like rain. Full Moon rising over Ford Hill. Coyotes yelping good at night over by The Mill Pond. Dead Railbird found by The Setback and reports of the Bittern calling, too! Hikers this past weekend through the heatwave reported NOBODY and AWFUL TERRIBLE deerfly. The change of weather gave the deerfly a good spanking, maybe some mosquitos come out? "Bugs are not bad." YOU HEARD IT! Some ESF Bio Station Students studying pike, another, orchids. Ranger School has delivered a BARGE back up to The Footbridge to get ready to scrape and paint the bridge. STAY TUNED! WANAKENA HISTORY CENTER is open for the SUMMER! Every Saturday and Sunday 11-4pm. SPECIAL "Singer Sundays" at the History Center every Sunday - a NEW machine and themes EVERY Sunday! KIM AND TOMS LOST DOG REPORT - There was a lost dog... there were reports of it running wild up on rt. 3 (yikes!). The dog has been found and returned to its owner - it was just a puppy! SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT ISSUED: 11:44 AM JUN. 23, 2024 – NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE...Several Rounds of Severe Thunderstorms Today... An unusual confluence of high levels of moisture, wind shear, and a strong forcing mechanism are supporting an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms across the North Country today. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to start firing after 12 PM with more numerous thunderstorms possible from convective lines of thunderstorms through 9 PM. Strong, gusty winds in excess of 60 miles per hour and a few tornadoes are the primary threats today. The risk of hail and flash flooding are also present, but not as high of a threat as damaging winds or tornadoes. Downed trees may lead to scattered power outages. Should tornadoes form, be ready to act and go to a basement or interior of a sturdy structure. Those in mobile homes should seek safer shelter. Best advice is to have multiple ways to receive our alerts and be ready to act in case a warning is issued for your location.
