DOWN AT THE ABODE
- Open seven days a week through the summertime. C'mon down. You know the "support small business" spiel, so we'll spare you with the details. You wouldn't change your habits if we said anything anyway - we've already said too much! Here we are, straddling two worlds: at the gateway; gate-keepers? That's a *hot* term these days. Thinking about operating and artist-run inconvenience store... We opened-up as an art gallery with a small concession stand. We quickly realized we did not want to venture the grant-writing non-profit route and therefor the store returned to the space to "pay the bills". More and more retail moved into the shrinking art real estate, seemingly shrinking shrinking shrinking the available "art" space. We'd like to think: not shrinking, simply not "obvious" art space (think: WHITE WALL). We've ALWAYS exhibited art exhibits. Dozens! Local artists and not local artists. And we're not stopping now. But, we will say: "art" does NOT have to simply exist as well-lit pretty price-tagged shit hanging on walls. (Trust us: we love that shit! We're trained professionals!) Art can (and IS) that and so much more, also. Take a look at the Potsdam Toilet guy. Now THAT is CRAPPY art! We want to explore re-thinking what "art shows" mean. So when someone comes in and says "Oh, so you're not showing other peoples art any more?"... the answer is "FALSE"! We're showing art, but just less limited to that holy White Wall method. There are plenty of other spaces where things that look like art exist as art. At this point in time we will veer. We have decided to do some empty gallery exploring. Some of our finest moments have come out of this sort of unknown space treatment. Re-imagining the "gallery" space/purpose; please continue to join us.

Next FOLK JAM is Sunday, June 19th 3-5pm. C'MON DOWN! Croquet, anyone? Maple Syrup is IN! Howard Graham's 2022 liquid gold. COME AND GET IT! Gallons, half-gallons, quarts, pints and half-pints! Produce rack remains STOCKED. Eat the fresh stuff and maybe some "misfits" too. Bread, milk, eggs and many more dry, cold and frozen groceries. TAKE A PEEK. Candy, snacks, ice cream and soft drinks, too. Fresh ground HOT COFFEE (since 2016) and baked goods at the counter. Books, maps, music for your browsing pleasure. Camping/fishing/hiking knickknack patty-whacks. COLD BEER SOLD HERE! Over SIXTY varieties of beer/cider/etc... in the walk-in cooler. The Clifton Community Library in Cranberry Lake has installed a fantastic Library Drop Box. Folks in town will be able to drop-off library items and also pick-up pre-ordered items! More info to come. CALL UP THE LIBRARY AND GET IT DONE! Perhaps visit their website, too. Local BTI guy Tim Nargi brought us down some BLACKFLY larvae and pupa samples in jars - come on down and take a look - he'll also be providing some write-ups (see above) and perhaps some more specimens. Why be a square when you could be a deconstructed cube?

"When the green woods laugh with the voice of joy, and the dimpling stream runs laughing by; when the air does laugh with our merry wit, and the green hill laughs with the noise of it; come live, and be merry, and join with me to sing the sweet chorus of "Ha, Ha, He!"
- William Blake (1757 - 1827)
