WITHINANUTSHELL
– This week brought the HEAT! And humidity. HOT HOT HOT. Also, big rain/thunder/lighting storm tuesday night. Lots o rain! Lots o thunder! Lots o lightning! Up the rapids cardinal flowers as far as the eye can see. The Oswegatchie is RIPPIN' though town. You can hear the rapids all the way over by The Setback. Swarms of cluster flies and clumps of river foam go sailing by. Gentian and blueberries, mosquitoes and no-see-ums. Bugs are bad, trails are wet. Dragonflies cut though golden sunsets and dark forests - at the same time. Frogs and ants and mud speckled pants. Four VERY LOW flying military helicopters Wednesday night. Four of them. They didn't have their lights on.. BUT WE SURE HEARD 'EM. Thanks but no thanks. Meteor shower, too - folks report not seeing many. We saw one. Art Exhibition opening and Artist Reception last Thursday night at Otto's Abode - more info below. First OFFICIAL Wanakena Taxi Ride this past week. A lot of folks have given weary hiker car rides, but this past week the official Wanakena Taxi list was utilized. Paul Flynn answered his call of duty! (photo below) Want to be on the list? DO IT! Clifton Fine Economic Development Corporation's Cultural Arts Committee held a concert at ZPARK in Wanakena last Friday; Useless Cans from Albany put on a hell of a show!!! One concert left: Labor Day Saturday the 4th (Folkfaces Buffalo Bluegrass). BIG weekend in Clifton-Fine this weekend: Cranberry Lake Art Show this weekend in Cranberry Lake and a BIG History Fair in Star Lake at the SOS and Arena. ART SHOW at Otto's Abode all month and a paper making workshop at ZPARK next week. Sounds like the Stone Manor in Cranberry Lake is OPEN!! History Center opens August 21st! Ranger School students back THIS SUNDAY - someone told us the Dubar Forest is CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC again... A professor told us it is still OPEN! DOWN AT THE ABODE
- There are NO major events this weekend at Otto's Abode. The first event-less weekend of the summer. That doesn't mean we're not looing to have some fun. Stop on down, we'll find something to do. Be sure to check out events in Cranberry Lake and Star Lake and stop in on the way through. Next week: PULP PAINTING WORKSHOP on the lawn with Carol Vossler (see flyer below). WANAKENA CEMETERY ASSOCIATION – Got yer raffle tickets? Announced that Cremation Remains burial has gone up from $150 to $250. Also, there is no longer a backhoe charge for cremation burial because they don’t use a backhoe for cremation burials any longer.

The following is copy-pasted from the Fine Town Board Meeting hours from Wednesday 11/11/2020: Jeremy wanted the board to be aware that the Dollar General is looking into putting a store at the former Great American site. This would not be required to go to site plan review since it is not a change of use.

KIM AND THOMS LOST DOG REPORT - LOST DOG this past weekend. A dog named Rocky was LOST! It's owner's uncle came down to Otto's to tell us. Turns out the kids just took it out for a walk. THE DOG WAS NOT LOST. God boy! As of today, there are NO lost dogs in Wanakena. Town of Fine is doing a Dog Census this summer. All dogs over 4 months are required to be licensed in the Town of Fine.
