WANAKENA WEEKLY #255 - 12/14/24 - 12/19/24

Happy Friday!

Hello everybody out there! Thanks for reading! Thanks for believing in us! Hard to believe it was just ONE WEEK ago... SEVEN DAYS AGO... Wanakena was getting downright SLAMED with snow! Squall status: 100%. Deliveries couldn't make it here. Garbage did not get picked up. Mary at the Post office made it in! Albert who drives the mail truck made it in! When it was all said and done, we got about a foot and a half. Had a great weekend last weekend enjoying all the snow! Saturday was a perfect blue-sky day. Folks around town were enjoying some great cross country ski sessions. The full moon Saturday night was BIG AND CRISPY! Temps got down below zero! And then came the WARM and RAIN... just like the storm before! We got less rain than the last thaw... and it did get above 40 for a day or two. It all added up and gave our snow pack a good spanking. We lost a lot of snow. Some local snowmobile trails were open but have since closed. We got a few fresh inches on top of it a few days ago. The temperature is dropping and a few more inches of snow in the forecast. It will be a white Christmas, just not a TON of white stuff. WE WILL SAY: THE SNOW CROQUET COURSE IS IN FINE SHAPE! Playable terrain remains! We did get the umbrellas out the other night! CROQUET! CROQUET! CROQUET!Folks are asking about Lake Ice Thickness... we'll say: DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! We hear they are making ice at the STAR LAKE ARENA! Deer cross the frozen Oswegatchie and zigzag through the yards. Crossbill are still hanging around town... zipping around chirping and having a gay old time. Blue Jay, Downey Woodpecker, Chickadee, Junco and squirrels at the feeder. Ranger School is off for the next four weeks! THIS Santa in Wanakena Saturday afternoon SANTA will be cruising around with the Star Lake Fire Dept so see some local kids! THANKS SANTA!
