HAPPY AUGUST! There is LIVE MUSIC in the WANAKENA CHURCH Thursday Night 7PM! The legendary JAM CRACKERS as a part of the Childwold Church music series... but this one is in the Wanakena Church. See you there? Cranberry Lake Art Show this upcoming Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th at the Harewood Firehall! CHECK IT OUT! Sounds like SOS/Adirondack Exhibit Center in Star Lake had a great weekend last weekend! Ranger School Alumini Weekend last weekend in Wanakena was tons-o-fun! AMAZING CFEDC concert this past Friday night - in conjunction with Alumni Weekend - with THE MAKERS from Ithaca. Each song they performed came with lovely anecdotes on life. A perfect fit for a robust crowd of Alumni strangers neighbors and friends. They played Appalachian inspired grooving and hypnic and uplifting tunes on banjo and guitar and fiddle - their beautiful voices ringing through the valley. Lots of positive feedback about those guys. LOTS! If you skipped out, you missed out! Alumni Weekend! Always great to see old faces and new. Lots to report... but who's got the time!? Heard some great stories from the "golden old good ol' days"... guess you had to be there. "GET RID OF THE RADIO!" We'll share this amazing photo we snapped of Les Everson Ranger School 1963 with worms he bought at Otto's and some Oswegatchie bass he caught with 'em. He's got maple sugar cakes on the shelf in Otto's NOW! He insisted on posing that way. And of course always great to see WITH-OUT-A-DOUBT WANAKENA WEEKLY'S BIGGEST FAN... Former Director Chris Westbrook. Cheers, pal! Ah..... SUMMERTIME IN THE MOUNTAINS! Mountain Ash makin' berries. Turkeys and fawns on the thoroughfares. Ankle bitters gnaw down to the BONE! RASPERRIES GALORE! Loons yodeling up under the footbridge in the morning! Everyone is asking if they are going to get wet on the High Falls Loop. Yes, you will! You know you will! It is a wilderness area. WILD-erness. The beavers rule the land. TRY TO ENJOY IT! Dry off later! Bag some sags! Peaks are for geeks! Mud rumblin! Recently confirmed that the beaver dam CLOSEST to Wanakena on the High Rock end is a "NEW" WET SPOT! And just when we thought we were close to drying up out there... LOTS OF RAIN ON THE WAY! HERE COMES THE RAIN! Yikes... looks like it could be a lot. Kinda scared, actually. There is a Packrafting Race from Stillwater to Wanakena Saturday post-Debbie. We'll keep you posted!
