Happy Thursday! 

Last weekend was ANOTHER beautiful summer weekend. A nice "quieter" one in Wanakena as compared to the ROCKIN HOLIDAY weekend before. Nice busy summer vibe with lots of new faces and old. There was a Sailboat Race and double Live Music in Harewood at Birch's Lakeside Store and Marina, The Hub and The Library Pavillion! Got some pretty heavy rain in conjunction with the hurricane blowing through, too. OSWEGATCHIE RIVER RIPPIN'! Lots of happy tubers going down the flooded rapids. Anniversary of the July 15th 1995 microburst! Beebalm EXPLOSION at the Labyrinth. Wild Blueberries, raspberries and crab apples. Cardinal flower and black eyed susan. Porch spiders galore. Reports of flooded trails to high falls. SOME folks decided to turn back. That's their choice! Lots of woods and trail option out there! Why bag peaks when there are so many sags to be had! Wanderkena! TOOLEY POND ROAD CLOSED NORTH OF TOLLY POND DUE TO WASHOUT! Camper out at Joe Indian reported two fawns tip-toeing past as he sat on the open-air pot... or as the DEC calls them: THUNDER BOXES. The pots, not the fawns. ANYHOO.... Did you know that the DEC wants to totally phase-out outhouses and in-turn have ONLY open-air thunder boxes? Where are we going to shelter from the winter wind? Gotta love hunkered down in a sub-zero outhouse for a puff, no? From Common Thread Quilts: Looking for something to do today? Stop by Singer Sunday (11am-4pm) at the Wanakena History Center (21 Second St.). We are focusing on the Roaring Twenties this week. Try sewing on three Singer sewing machines from the 1920s.
