WANAKENA WEEKLY #88 - 10/07/21 - 10/13/21

Happy Thursday!

WITHINANUTSHELL – Listen to those leaves crunch below your feet. Yes, that's right we've PEAKED and are past peak fall foliage. Everyone had their qualms: "ooohhhh, the yellows didn't pop" "oohhh the reds didn't pop" "oooohhh the pop pop pop" "pop pop pop pop poppity pop".... we've heard it all, but all-in-all it was downright freaking gorgeous. KAPEASH!? This past Saturday was your last chance to see the NEW Wanakena History Center. 'Suppose you'll have to wait until NEXT YEAR! Ya snooze ya loose, suckers!!!!! This past Saturday was also OKTOBERFEAST! A great crowd and great food. Thanks everyone for making it such a GREAT time! Crowded (but not TOO crowded) trails reported over the weekend and though the beginning of the week. Take extra caution while hiking; roots, rocks and holes are not hiding under the fallen leaves waiting to twist your ankle! ENJOY! WEAR ORANGE.... hunting season has already begun. Regular Deer season starts October 23rd. Regular Town Board Meeting October 13th @ 6:30. WILDERNESS RESCUE
- Town of Clifton - St. Lawrence County - Wilderness Rescue: On Oct. 7 at 2 p.m., DEC’s Ray Brook Dispatch received a call from the wife of a sick kayaker on Cranberry Lake. The caller reported that her husband was suffering from the effects of possible food poisoning. Director Solan and Forest Ranger Benzel responded via boat. At 3:12 p.m., Director Solan and Ranger Benzel assisted the 61-year-old from Long Island with his belongings and gave him and his companions a courtesy ride off the water and back to their vehicle. At 4:14 p.m., the group was back at the dock where Rangers rehydrated the kayaker.
